JMW's Top 10 Songs of June 2019

Updated: Nov 3, 2020

Every month delivers new sounds, experiences, and vibes that are simply contagious to the point that you can't get rid of them (even if you wanted to). The month of June kept this same energy and did not let me down in the slightest of ways. Check out my top 10 songs of June below.

1. K Camp - Lottery

Now, my brother actually put me on to this track during our vacation to Orlando in the beginning part of June... From the first time we played the song, it instantly stuck with me. From the production to K Camp's style of rap, I literally love the track (so much to the point I had to stop playing it because I didn't want to hate it). K Camp is actually pretty underrated and delivers many diff vibes and music moments that should be noted.

2. Future - XanaX Damage

Our misogynistic favorite returned in June with a small project entitled "SAVE ME," and this cut from the project literally grabbed me by the throat. It is something about how Future intermixes rapping with singing that really brings out his passion. The record is honestly too short for me and I need more.

I find myself bellowing along with Future as he sings. Although I did not like it initially, this is also one of my favorite projects out right now surprisingly.

3. Dreamville - Down Bad (feat. JID, Bas, J.Cole, EARTHGANG, & Young Nudy)

As a part of a double-single release from Dreamville's highly anticipated, "Revenge of the Dreamers 3," (dropping on Friday) Down Bad immediately became a favorite of mine. The moment I heard JID go completely off on the track and deliver an anthem of a chorus I knew this was for me. Every artist held it down as it pertained to their verses and the production? INSANE!

I literally LOVE this record wholeheartedly. Not only is it relatable but it just sounds so pleasing to the ear.

4. Chris Brown - No Guidance (feat. Drake)

Honestly... forget the song of the summer. This might just be song of the year for me. If you know me, you know: 1. I love Chris Brown (that's big bro in my head). 2. Drake is literally one of my absolute favorite rappers (Do not debate me that he is not a rapper... spare me).

I have been patiently waiting for these two to come together and make a HIT... and that is exactly what they did. The two flow together so naturally. Chris' voice and charisma is great (per usual) and of course Drake had to bring each and every one of the feels at the end of the record.

5. Daniel Caesar & Brandy - Love Again

Surprising the world, Daniel Caesar released a surprise album 3 days ago and boy, is it amazing!

The first song that literally stood out to me was the utterly harmonious "Love Again" record with Brandy. Like a natural spring, the two flowed together so effortlessly and smoothly.

It is one of the most beautiful releases of the summer (so far). Naturally, Daniel carried his own flawlessly, but Brandy... that voice literally carried me to Heaven. Every run, ad-lib, pitch, you name it was without error. If you haven't played this track, do it now!

6. DaniLeigh - Easy (Remix) [feat. Chris Brown]

I actually discovered this track through Instagram. Chris Brown was promoting the video on profile page, and the few seconds that it did play quickly gained my attention. Dani and Chris Brown create such an authentic R&B vibe with the song.

It's so mellow and calming. In the same breath, it is also very intoxicating as the production just makes you feel great with each listen. They sound great and the video is just as great as the song.

7. H.E.R. - Racks (feat. YBN Cordae)

Since her arrival on the scene as this shadowy, R&B powerhouse, I've been utterly obsessed with H.E.R. With each release, each performance, and each public appearance, like a fine wine, she literally gets better and better. While teaming up with YBN Cordae was actually unexpected, it is greatly appreciated!

The track is very mellow and chill. H.E.R. delivers those chilling vocals and YBN Cordae brings out that modern Hip-Hop style that his fans have grown to love about him. The two mesh together well and while the song sounds great, of course H.E.R. delivers a message deeper than the surface!

8. Drake - Omertà

The moment the Toronto Raptors took home the NBA Championship, it was literally a no brainer that Drake was going to drop some new music. As one of the two singles he released, "Omertà" is the pure truth! Don't get me wrong, I love the Rick Ross-assisted, "Money In The Grave," but to deny the lyrical monstrosity that is "Omertà" is ignorance.

Right after he dropped it, I found myself playing the song over and over on a loop analyzing the lyricism and talent that is Drake. He reminded me that he can literally pull out the beast in him whenever he chooses to and that he will remain at the top of the food chain for as long as he pleases.

9. Nicki Minaj - Megatron

After going ghost for some months, and returning with a crpytic post that simply stated, "MEGATRON," Ms. Minaj returned with the reggae-inspired, dancehall vibe, "Megatron." Now, while the song is not remotely Nicki's lyrically best work, it still actually makes for a great listen.

It is very playful and embodies the energy of summertime fun. Regardless of how you feel about the artist, the song is extremely catchy, upbeat, and perfect for the summer. Even I caught myself with the song's chorus trapped in my head after I played the song and watched the video.

10. Chris Brown - Come Together (feat. H.E.R.)

The moment I saw this collaboration in the track listing, I knew I would fall in love with it (and that is exactly what I did). Both H.E.R. and Chris did exactly what needed to be done on this larger-than-life record. From production to delivery, the song is very cinematic and theatrical. It is as if the song belongs on the soundtrack of some major film.

H.E.R. and Chris' chemistry is so pure and strong. Their voices flow together and blaze across the entire song with ease. I'm so happy they teamed up again and I cannot wait to see future collaborations from the two.

Honestly, June might be my favorite month of music so far. Along with the songs I have mentioned, there were literally so many vibes, and musical moments that I could not even name on this list! June definitely showed up and exceeded my expectations without much work. I cannot wait to see what July brings.
