Fresh from her heavily earned, emotional BET Awards win last month, CoCo Jones continues infiltrating the world's hearts and ears with even more soul-moving music. Almost a year after its debut, the angelic songstress has returned with a remix to her highly acclaimed hit, "ICU." The DJ-camper-produced track is the second single from Jones' November EP, What I Didn't Tell You. Recruiting none other than the incomparable Justin Timberlake for the remix, CoCo adds even more R&B, feels, and pure soul to the heartfelt hit.
Having teased the collaboration via Twitter, on Monday (Jul. 10), it was finally revealed to the world on Wednesday (Jul. 12) when CoCo confirmed the rumors at the 2023 ESPY Awards. Gushing over the legend that is JT, she made it clear that he is a CoCo Jones supporter and how very proud & excited she was for the collaboration. The remix marks Justin's first musical release of 2023 and the pair's first collaboration (and hopefully not last). The "ICU" Remix finds both Timberlake and Jones organically meshing their beautiful God-given voices as they usher their listeners to the land of Milk and Honey. Timberlake provides the male perspective as he battles with the emotions of not having his lover around yet being haunted by the very thoughts of them. He acknowledges his longing for his partner and wishes for nothing but to be in their presence.
The buttery, melodic vocalism cradles listeners almost like the perfect lullaby as the two sing their hearts out about the varying emotions that come with love. The record delivers a sense of nostalgia and excitement that continues to prove why R&B is a top-tier genre (and not dead in the slightest).
There are always those stars you simply just want to win every step of the way and CoCo Jones is one of them. And while Justin hasn't released an album since 2018's Man of the Woods, he makes it very clear that his voice is still pristine, the spirit is very much still soulful, and he is indeed still one of the best artists of our time.
